100 Mile Diet, 100 Mile Wardrobe?

Is this some kind of foodie cult?

Do we think the world would be a better place if more people ate local food more often? Yes. Do we want to pick fights or lose friends about it? No.

I heard about the 100 Mile Diet over at treehugger and had to check it out, especially since Sarah and I were just talking about Slow Food and other such movements last night. I griped a bit and wondered aloud, when, oh when, will fashion catch up. You've heard me talk about fast fashion before. It turns out I am not the only one who thinks a Slow Fashion movement would be a good thing. Nor am I the only one to use the term "fast fashion". Over at Convergence 6 they define Slow Fashion as:
Slow Fashion is to clothing and design what slow food is to cuisine – natural, organic, ethical, local (where possible) and one-off designs with an emphasis on quality, and of course – taste. Slow Fashion means you can look fantastic and feel 100% guilt free.
Well, there is so much that needs to change about production to become 100% guilt free, but their heart is in the right place. I don't know if this Convergence 6 event happened or will be happening as it only says October 14 - 17. Does anyone know? This could be just the excuse I need to finally make it to Ireland. The impressive Dr. Braungart will be speaking... or has already spoken.

Do we think the world would be a better place if more people wore sustainable fashion more often? Yes. Do we want to pick fights or lose friends about it? No.

So how do we stop preaching to the choir and get the congregation involved? I say let the medium be the message. Attractive options my brethren, good green design.

Comments:
I was wondering about this myself, recently. I'm glad to know that another "cult" movement may well be on the way! While the food industry has become ridiculously un-sustainable, the textile industry may well be worse!

Don't know about Convergence, but Braungart will be giving a talk here in Copenhagen next tuesday and I intend to check it out.

I'd be really interested in that (as you can prob guess already :)
