London Fashion Week: Estethica/ Davina Hawthorne

As the previous posts illustrate, when it comes to fashion, London is a hot bed of ethical design. Given the size of London Fashion Week in comparison to New York, proportionally there was a lot more green going on. Estethica, a special ethical section of the fashion exhibition, happened for it's second season. I recently met with Allison from Again NYC who participated in the event, exhibiting her handbags made from vintage textiles. She reports back that it was a great success.
Also on site, were the standout recycled designs of Davina Hawthorne that are pictured here. It is no secret that I like to cut up and re-sew things, so these pictures definitely caught my eye. Davina is a fashion & textile designer who uses a combination of recycled, industrial and handcrafted techniques. Her work seeks to push the boundaries of these two disciplines through finishing, texture, function and silhouette. Davina is a graduate of Central St Martins and in November 2002 she was given the Clerkenwell Green Award. She sells her work through private commissions, retailers and exhibitions.
