Marie Claire Benefit for Lauren Bush & World Food Program FEED Project

After reading Lauren Bush's account of her experiences working with the UN World Food Program in this month's Marie Claire, I was able to attend last week's benefit and view some photographs she had taken along the way. All the proceeds went to benefit the FEED project.

1 FEED bag = 1 child fed for 1 school year
1 FEED T-shirt = 100 children fed for 1 school day

FEED is a joint project between Lauren Bush, Honorary Spokesperson, and the United Nations World Food Program. All the proceeds from a FEED bag go directly to feeding one hungry child for one school year through the UN World Food Program. Proceeds from each FEED t-shirt will provide 100 kids with a school meal for 1 day.

Almost 400 million children go to bed hungry each night. Hunger and malnutrition kill more people than AIDS, malaria, and TB combined. In fact, every five seconds a child dies because he or she is hungry. For a hungry kid, and especially for a hungry girl, school is not even an option.

Yet, there is hope. When boys and girls are given a free, nutritious meal in school, research has shown that attendance increases by 100% and performance improves greatly. For many kids this is the only meal they will receive all day, and it is enough to empower them to survive, to learn, and to improve their lives.

FEED bags available here.
The FEED t-shirt is an American Apparel Sustainable Edition made of 100% organic cotton. Available here.
